Julia Ryan Jaffe

is a photographer, writer, musician, and aspiring creative director who rarely focuses on just one project at a time. Long Island born and Boston raised, Jaffe is currently a student at Northeastern University studying Communications & Media Studies. Her work lives at the intersection of music, fashion, film, and youth culture, often documenting the creative spaces and subcultures that shape her world.

Alongside her studies, Jaffe contributes to independent publications including Cherry Blue MagazineThe Dabbling Duck Zine, and Northeastern University at Mills College's own The Womanist. With a background in styling, costume design, and fashion sourcing, she approaches photography through a distinctly editorial lens.

Outside of journalism, Jaffe is a singer, songwriter, and guitarist for the original bands Juniper and Cherrybrook. A lifelong film lover, concert-goer, vintage obsessive, and collector of magazines, books, and visual references, much of her creative work is inspired by the worlds of cinema, music, and fashion.

When she’s not photographing, writing, or making music, Jaffe can usually be found at concerts, thrift stores, movie theaters, or working on whatever creative project comes next. Reach out via email or social media for freelance work and collaborations.

The Velvet Pearl

The Velvet Pearl documents moments as they take shape - through music, culture, and image. For creatives who find meaning in the chaos of creation.

Velvet is what’s felt. Pearl is what's formed.
